How to use the database (FAQ’s)
-
I cannot see the source references after having entered a query. What can I do?
After having entered a query, you will automatically reach the template “Search Results”. To find the related source reference, it is necessary to click on the respective “Name” of the athlete, on his “ID Person” or directly on “Details Athlete”. This will lead you to the template “Details Athlete” where you will find the respective source reference(s).
-
Is there any other additional information which I do not find under the template “search results”?
&Of course there is. In addition to the information available under “search results”, you may find the sex of the athlete and the region of his hometown under the template “Details Athlete”. “Details victory” guides you to the type of event (hippic, gymnic) and the type of success (participant, victor, second victor).
-
In which cases is a combined search useful?
You may, for example, combine the query “Agon: Herakleia” with the search “Polis: Thebes”, in order to see the results on all Hellenistic victors at the Herakleia of Thebes (and not at the other attested Herakleia at Chalcis, Pergamum or Rhodes).

What rules are applied for the transliteration of names and places?
Usually the Greek transliteration is preferred, except in these cases in which the Latin version is so common in English that it would be awkward not to use it.
